Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co., a Wisconsin-based specialty coffee business, has recently become the newest addition to the FairWave Coffee Collective. This collaboration brings together a group of leading local coffee brands with a shared passion for specialty coffee. Anodyne joins nine other independent coffee businesses in the collective, including Folly Coffee Roasters and Philtera Cold Brewed Coffees, which joined earlier this year.

A Community-Focused Approach

Despite joining the FairWave Coffee Collective, Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. will continue its regular operations across its four stores in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The founders of Anodyne, Matt McClutchy and Lacee Perry, will also become partial owners in FairWave, ensuring that the community focus and values of Anodyne remain intact.

The wider leadership team at Anodyne, including Steve Kessler, Nolan Truttschel, Laura Lown, and Stephanie Burton, will serve as FairWave’s local Milwaukee ownership group. This ensures that the expertise and experience of Anodyne’s team will be integrated into the collective.

“With more than two decades of experience in the specialty coffee industry, Anodyne is bringing a wealth of talent and experience to the collective. Milwaukee has a strong sense of community with a vibrant food and beverage scene, and we couldn’t be happier to launch in this market with such an incredible partner,” said Joe Marrocco, Vice President of Coffee Sourcing and Product Development at FairWave.

Strength in Numbers

The FairWave Coffee Collective was formalized in 2020 and has since grown to include a diverse range of specialty coffee businesses. The collective initially took stakes in The Roasterie, a Kansas City-based company with a roastery and six cafés, and Messenger Coffee, which operates a roastery and four cafés. These acquisitions laid the foundation for FairWave’s collaborative approach to the specialty coffee industry.

In addition to Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co., FairWave also includes Spyhouse Coffee Roasters, a seven-strong café chain and roastery based in Minneapolis. Up Coffee Roasters, a roastery located in Minneapolis, is also part of the collective. Black Dog Coffeehouse, a single-store café in Missouri, and Filling Station Coffee Garage, a three-strong café chain, complete the lineup of independent businesses in the collective.

Furthermore, IBIS Bakery, which supplies Messenger Coffee and Black Dog Coffeehouse along with various other hospitality venues, is also part of the FairWave Coffee Collective.

Looking Ahead

The addition of Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. to the FairWave Coffee Collective marks an exciting milestone for both companies. By leveraging FairWave’s resources while retaining their community focus, Anodyne aims to continue providing exceptional specialty coffee to its loyal customer base in Milwaukee. As FairWave expands its network of specialty independents, it solidifies its position as a leading player in the specialty coffee industry.
